Our Ozzie adventure, part 1: The ISPRS Congress 2012, Melbourne

After 37h trip Australia welcomed us with beautiful sunshine and a good atmosphere. A shower made the trick and we were fresh and almost full of energy for sightseeing... At least until the afternoon ;)

Anyway, we took a walking tour around the city and visited the State parliament. For some reason Melbourne seemed to us a bit like a city in the USA, just with narrower streets and better food ;)

Me and drTBBE attended (different) pre-conference workshops. Good stuff, though organization should be improved.

The conference started with a welcome reception that was made more attractive with a possibility to see and touch some of the native animals. There was a koala to cuddle, a python,a crocodile and some kind of a rat(?)... Nice, even if I am not a fan of these kind of entertainments. The animals looked relatively relaxed....

Attending the congress was good. The first such large conference for us (~1300 people) and to be honest I think I prefer smaller meetings. Several good presentations, some good talks and discussions with the exhibitors and networking. It was also good to catch up with some "Good old" friends from our universities or previous conferences :)

Several photos from the evenings in Melbourne:
