Brussels, 8 story building next to a noisy street....
A nice apartment on the last floor, with a beautiful terrace accessible via heavy, sliding balcony doors....
L. and drTBBE smoke cigarettes at the terrace and the wind brings all the smoke inside...
I join the smokers outside and .... close the balcony doors to prevent the smoke inside ....
I only hear L.'s voice shouting "noooooo" and exactly that moment I realize that there is (obviously) no door handle outside and we are stuck on the terrace...
I'm blushing and decide to smoke a cigarette too.... I really thought that these sort of things can only happen in class C movies...
drTBBE has his mobile phone with him, but L. doesn't remember any number to call...
Fortunately L. did not lock the entrance doors to the apartment - if we manage to find someone to come up to the 8th floor and open the balcony doors for us - we are saved!!!
We try to make some noise at the neighboring balcony by hitting the balustrade with a wooden stick... no luck...
We shout: Hulp!!!!, Ajuto!!!, Help!!!, Messier!!, Madame!!!.... the street is very noisy, no one notices...
I try to recall how long can people live without food - I am not too worry about the lack of water - we are in Brussels :-)
Shout: Help!!! We desperately wave hands, make a lot noise, shout... Ufff.... 3 boys playing ball on the sidewalk notice us!!! Yes!!! L. explains the situation and they try to enter the building but no one wants to open the building entrance doors (intercom)... They come back to playing football.... L. convinces them to try again and this time one of the neighbors walks out to the balcony to check if we are there....
Eventually, after being locked at the terrace for about 40 minutes three different neighbors come up (nearly simultaneously) and unlock the balcony doors for us. Saved!!!!
And just on time to watch the finals of the Champions League :-)
I'm still blushing :-)
And laughing...
P.S. View from the balcony:

Ulbjerg Cliff
Excellent afternoon trip to Ulbjerg Klint (20km North from Viborg).
Denmark is not that flat after all :-)

On a side note, I am afraid that drTBBE needs a visit to an eye specialists. My concerns are related to a "path" down from the "cliff" top to the beach, that drTBBE saw. My discrete suggestions (=walk away in the opposite direction) that what he saw was not a "path" because paths are at least a foot wide and do not vanish after 2m were completely ignored. In result our walk included a very joyful slide from the "cliff" (see the marks on the sand in the image below, drTBBE is mimicking a scale(mirrored "S")). Not something to recommend after rain ;-)

Ribe and Mandø
Our weekend trip to South West Denmark turned out much nicer than we expected :-)
We started with a visit to Esbjerg that was all right, but looking like plenty of other Danish towns. The four men on the beach are worth a (very short, if it is windy) visit:
In the afternoon we headed towards Mandø, an island in the Danish Wadden Sea, reachable by road only at low tide. The drive to the island and the island itself are simply beautiful !!
and a Viking Museum with a Viking Market:

Ribe, the oldest town in Denmark, is the most beautiful town that I have so far seen in this country. It must be even more picturesque when all trees become green and flowers are blooming... Narrow streets, old charm full buildings, small cafes behind every second corner...

Return to Budapest
This time with my Mum and Brother :-)
Excellent company, great city, delicious food and incredible weather (10C more than in DK or PL at that time).

Any idea how that something (a thermometer?) works?

Defended!
I must admit, because I did not know what to expect, I was expecting the worst: a sequence of questions pointing into weaknesses of my PhD work. And instead I got a very constructive discussion about both, the strong and the weak parts. Plus a very positive atmosphere and a couple of jokes! And the after defence discussion was even better!
Summa summarum - a very enjoyable day !!!
And the feeling of having the 3.5 years process completed - priceless... :D

far too serious post
While drTBBE is snowboarding in Georgia with a group of his good old friends I suddenly have so much time for myself ;-)
Until yesterday most of this time I have spent on preparations for the defence - Incredible how difficult it is to go back to own work after 3 months of not thinking about it! - but yesterday's very sad news:
two-polish-climbers-missing-on-broad-peak
completely distracted my attention and made me thinking hard about serious things...
So far I have been a very lucky and happy person: relatively healthy, loving and being loved, enjoying what I do at work. But somehow I feel like the time is passing by between my fingers... And it is not scary that I do not know what I will be like, where and what I will be doing in, let't say, 5 years. But it is terrifying that I do not know what I want to be like and what I want to do in 5 years...
The two Polish climbers died while realizing their dreams...
I guess it is time for changes because I do not even have a dream...
