Project Belgium - updates

Project Belgium is progressing with no larger obstacles so far. A short summary of the progress:

  • I start the new job on the 15th of September,
  • The work that I have to finish before leaving my job in Bergen (31.08) is a lot but seems to be doable...
  • We already have an apartment in Mol (provided by my future employer). It should be large enough for our stuff and toys but... it is on the third floor with no elevator....
  • A truck to move our things to Belgium is booked (12.09),
  • drTBBE will stay in DK until the end of the year but we have a rough plan for visiting each other. With about 20 days of holidays left that drTBBE has to use this year these 3 months of living separately do not look that dark :-)
So basically no time for more holidays this summer. After I finish my current job there is less than 2 weeks to pack all the rubbish that we collected over the years and paint our flat white (we need to give it back "refreshed").
In the meantime we need to find out  how to bring our car legally to Belgium, think about new bank accounts, mobile phone cards etc... And there are still places in Denmark that I want to see before leaving!!!

Andalusia - great time with good "old" friends...

Great people, beautiful places, delicious food, great fun!!!
And the best thing is that there are people who, after not having seen for several years, you start talking to and it feels like these several years never happened, like you saw each other two weeks ago... I really like thatt :D

North Denmark

Another lovely weekend trip in Denmark :-) This time we headed North to see the place where the Baltic and and the North see meet each other around Grenen:

Note waves coming from two directions :-)

Skagen surprised us very positively - a small picturesque town full of people, nice atmosphere...

...and, at least on that weekend, full of old American cars:

We visited also the Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse that used to look like that: link
and look like that today:

This lighthouse may fall into the see by 2013 (link)... the power of nature is amazing!

And this beauty we found parked next to our car:

At the camping we met other emigrants:

Although next photos might look romantic, it is only because you cannot see the cold wind:

changes again !!!

Belgium, here we come!!!
I was offered a job at the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) and we decided to check if we could be happy in Belgium :-)
The offer came pretty unexpectedly, and it took us quite some time to digest it but we are quite excited about it! So, about two years after starting project Denmark we kick-off a new project: project Belgium!

It should be a very interesting experience:

it only happens in movies....

Brussels, 8 story building next to a noisy street....
A nice apartment on the last floor, with a beautiful terrace accessible via heavy, sliding balcony doors....
L. and drTBBE smoke cigarettes at the terrace and the wind brings all the smoke inside...
I join the smokers outside and .... close the balcony doors to prevent the smoke inside ....
I only hear L.'s voice shouting "noooooo" and exactly that moment I realize that there is (obviously) no door handle outside and we are stuck on the terrace...
I'm blushing and decide to smoke a cigarette too.... I really thought that these sort of things can only happen in class C movies...
drTBBE has his mobile phone with him, but L. doesn't remember any number to call...
Fortunately L. did not lock the entrance doors to the apartment - if we manage to find someone to come up to the 8th floor and open the balcony doors for us - we are saved!!!
We try to make some noise at the neighboring balcony by hitting the balustrade with a wooden stick... no luck...
We shout: Hulp!!!!, Ajuto!!!, Help!!!, Messier!!, Madame!!!.... the street is very noisy, no one notices...
I try to recall how long can people live without food - I am not too worry about the lack of water - we are in Brussels :-)
Shout: Help!!! We desperately wave hands, make a lot noise, shout... Ufff.... 3 boys playing ball on the sidewalk notice us!!!   Yes!!! L. explains the situation and they try to enter the building but no one wants to open the building entrance doors (intercom)... They come back to playing football.... L. convinces them to try again and this time one of the neighbors walks out to the balcony to check if we are there....
Eventually, after being locked at the terrace for about 40 minutes three different neighbors come up (nearly simultaneously) and unlock the balcony doors for us. Saved!!!!
And just on time to watch the finals of the Champions League :-)

I'm still blushing :-)
And laughing...

P.S. View from the balcony:
